Buildings and homes must have fresh airflow to maintain air quality in order to avoid health hazards and to control condensation. Unfortunately, ventilation can also be a cause of considerable heat loss for a building.
Whole house Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) works well with dwellings that have high levels of thermal efficiency and air tightness. They work by removing stale indoor air and replacing it with 'fresh' outside air that is pre-warmed by the extracted air via a heat exchanger.
The MVHR systems installed by Solar Air UK are eligible for SAP appendix Q and work toward achieving various levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The units work via a network of ducts and vents throughout the house, recovering up to 95% of heat that would otherwise have been lost.
